Avoiding The Unnecessary Drama

Now you’re engaged your mind is likely racing from one thought to the other as you think what dress you want, whether you can book that venue you’ve had in your mind for years (yes, YEARS), to styling to perfect Save The Date photoshoot. So how do you announce your engagement?

How To Announce Your Engagement

1. Tell your nearest and dearest first

Telling your nearest family and friends first will avoid any unnecessary drama. You can do this by letting them know one by one, starting with your parents (or children if you have any!), any other close family members, and then close friends. If you want to make a big reveal then getting all your nearest and dearest together for an amazing engagement surprise where you all celebrate this incredible milestone together over some drinks and dinner.

2. Text the rest

Or give them a call of course! Depending on how big of a social butterfly you are and the number of people you want to inform you can go either way. Write up a text and send this out to everyone in your contact list – you can do this in one big announcement batch! Giving them a call is, of course, a bit more personal but you’d be surprised how fast the initial adrenaline and excitement can decline when Betty from high school is 42nd on the phone call list.

3. Social media

Instagram didn’t come around for no reason – start snapping those engagement ring photos! Let’s go #newlyengaged and  #isaidyes all the way girl! Get yourself an engagement cup and snap away because this is (one of) the biggest days of your life and posting an engagement picture on social media is the equivalent of a newspaper announcement back in the day. (This is completely optional – if you’re not into social media then don’t feel obliged!)

4. Setup a wedding website

A wedding website is a convenient way to keep tabs on all things wedding, including tools to announce your engagament. It will allow you to communicate any wedding details with all your guests from one place and solves any issues of the “lost invite” as your guests can RSVP online, pass on dietary requirements, check the venue address, etc. Of course nobody is telling you not to go with absolutely dreamy stationery – you’re getting married, you can DO WHAT YOU WANT!

5. Have a party

This is totally optional but such great fun! Make it as formal or casual as you like with a nice dinner or some good old barbecue, a simple brunch with drinks, or a Las Vegas extravaganza. The possibilities are limitless and the most important thing is that you enjoy yourself as you share this moment with loved ones.
